There are stories that stick with you – whispering in the back of your mind like spirits who refuse to be forgotten. Some cases are cold in the eyes on the law, but for the families left behind, they are open wounds that never heal. The Fox Hollow Murders is one such case, a chilling and unresolved nightmare that lingers in the shadows of justice, waiting for the light to expose the full truth.

I recently watched Fox Hollow Murders on Hulu, and it was nothing short of a spellbinding descent into one of the most sinister cases I’ve encountered. As I sat down at my desk for work, only intending to have background noise, I found myself completely entranced. The deeper the documentary wove its tangled web, the more I realized that this case is far from closed, and the ghosts of those lost deserve their stories to be told.

The Fox Hollow Murders unfolded at the infamous Baumeister Farm in Indianapolis, Indiana, where a seemingly ordinary man named Herb Baumeister harbored a horrifying secret. By day, he was a husband and father, but by night, he hunted vulnerable gay men, luring them from nightclubs into his labyrinthine nightmare. When authorities finally caught wind of his sinister activities -thanks to a tip from Mark Goodman – Herb fled to Canada, where he took his own life, leaving behind no confession, no apology, and far too many unanswered questions.

And yet, what should have been the end of the story was just the beginning of its darkest revelations. Mark Goodman, the so-called whistle-blower, was later caught in a web of deceit. As I watched, I couldn’t shake the feeling that he knew far more than he ever admitted. How could Herb have carried out these gruesome murders alone? The inconsistencies in Mark’s behavior and his long history with Herb left me questioning everything. His erratic emotions, the contradictions in his testimony, and the sheer convenience of his involvement gnawed at me like an unseen force in the room.

Then there’s this sickening injustice of it all. The bodies discovered on the farm – so many of them still unidentified – left behind families desperate for answers. And yet, the funding to continue the investigation was cut, forcing those already grieving to bear the financial burden of uncovering the truth. The system that was supposed to protect them abandoned them. It’s infuriating, and it’s unacceptable.

But there is still hope. Among the figures in the documentary, one man stood out to me – Jeff, a dedicated and compassionate investigator who refuses to let this case be forgotten. Whether a police officer, a coroner, or a guardian of the lost, Jeff radiates a genuine desire for justice. He wants closure for the families. He wants to name the nameless. He cares.

That’s what this case needs: people who care. People who refuse to let the past be buried alongside the victims. People who will demand answers and refuse to let injustice stand. This case has remained largely out of the media’s eye, but that needs to change. Now, 30 years later, we have the power to amplify these voices, to reignite the investigation, and to ensure these souls are finally put to rest.

I believe in energy, in spirits, in the whispers of the past nudging us toward the truth. And I feel them now, urging me to act. I want to use LexTalk as a platform to shed light on this case, to rally others who feel the same pull toward justice. If enough of us come together, share this story, ask questions, demand accountability – maybe, just maybe, we can help bring this case to its rightful conclusion.

The Fox Hollow victims mattered. They were loved. They deserved better.

And their story isn’t over yet.

If this case stirs something in you, don’t let the feeling fade. Share this. Talk about it. Research. Keep asking questions. The more voices that rise, the harder it will be for the truth to remain buried.

Because the dead may whisper, but the living can roar.

How Can I Help Solve This Cold Case?

The Fox Hollow Murders remain an open investigation, with many victims still unidentified and justice hanging in the balance. But this case doesn’t have to stay buried in the past – we can help bring answers. If this case haunts you as much as it does me, here are some ways to take action:

  1. Spread Awareness

Justice starts with visibility. Share this blog, discuss the case on social media, and use hashtags like #FoxHollowMurders #JusticeForTheVictims #SolveTheCase to amplify the conversation. The more people who know, the more pressure there is to reopen investigations.

2. Support Cold Case Organizations

Several organizations work tirelessly to identify unknown victims and solve long-forgotten cases. Consider supporting or volunteering with groups like:

  • The Doe Network (www.doenetwork.org) – Works to identify missing persons and cold case victims.
  • DNA Doe Project (www.dnadoeproject.org) – Uses forensic genealogy to identify remains.
  • NAMUS (www.namus.gov) – A national database for missing and unidentified persons.

3. Contact Law Enforcement or Investigative Journalists

If you have any information – even if it seems small – it could be crucial. You can also ask law enforcement about updates and encourage them to prioritize forensic testing and victim identification.

  • Indiana State Police Cold Case Unit – (317) 232-8280
  • Marion County Coroner’s Office – (317) 327-4744

Journalists covering the case may also be open to new leads or public support to push for further investigation.

4. Advocate for DNA Testing & Funding

Many cold cases remain unsolved due to a lack of funding for forensic testing. Some of the unidentified victims of Fox Hollow Farm could be named if resources were available. Support legislation that funds forensic genetic genealogy and encourage officials to allocate resources to this case.

5. Follow the Case & Get Involved

Stay updated on the case by following true crime researchers, podcasts, and news reports. If you’re passionate about solving cold cases, consider joining online true crime communities or even working with researchers who analyze unsolved cases.

This isn’t just history – it’s an ongoing mystery with real families still waiting for answers. Together, we can help bring these victims the justice they deserve.
