Embracing Hate: Turning Trolls into YouTube Success

Lately, something kind of hilarious (and honestly, very telling) happened on my YouTube channel.

If you don’t know me, I run a very personal, very me sort of channel. I share slices of my life: my cat Juggy being the absolute king he is, some wedding moments, witchy vibes, and home decor ideas. It’s not one rigid niche—just me, sharing the things I love with anyone who wants to watch.

The other day, I noticed something weird. Someone had gone through every single video on my channel and hit dislike. Every. Single. One.

At first? I felt that little sting in my chest. It’s vulnerable to share your life online. And it’s even more vulnerable knowing someone disliked it all so much they went on a mini vendetta.

But then I had to laugh.

Because here’s the thing most people don’t realize: YouTube sees likes and dislikes exactly the same way. They’re both engagement.

That person spent actual time going through my videos and interacting with all of them. The algorithm isn’t judging whether they liked me or not—it’s just going:

“Oh! Someone is super engaged with this creator’s content! Let’s push it out more.”

My hater actually helped me.

So this post is for two groups of people:

1️⃣ To My Fellow Creators (Or Anyone Putting Themselves Out There)

Here’s what I want you to take away from this:

✅ Hate is inevitable. The moment you make anything public, someone will dislike it. Not everyone will love you. But guess what? Not everyone needs to.

✅ Hate = Visibility. If you’re getting trolls, it means people are seeing you. That’s the entire goal.

✅ Engagement is engagement. The algorithm doesn’t know if your hater is rolling their eyes or clapping their hands. It just knows they clicked, watched, scrolled, liked, or disliked. That’s all it needs.

✅ You don’t need everyone. You just need your people—the ones who see you, like you, and want more.

✅ You’re braver than they are. You hit “publish.” They just hit “dislike” from the shadows.

2️⃣ To My One Very Dedicated Hater

Truly—from the bottom of my heart:

Thank you.

You didn’t just watch. You didn’t just drop by. You committed. You boosted my channel in a way that even my nicest subscribers haven’t yet.

You told the algorithm, loudly and clearly:

“Hey, this channel is worth paying attention to.”

So if you’re reading this on my blog (and I suspect you are)? Thanks for the views. Thanks for the clicks. Thanks for making sure more people see my stuff.

Keep it up! You’re helping me grow.

❤️ To Everyone Else

If you’re out there creating, sharing your voice, telling your story—please don’t stop because someone dislikes you. Don’t quit over one petty person with too much time and too little courage.

The world needs your weird, messy, beautiful self.

I’ll be here, sharing my life, my cat’s shenanigans, my wedding journey, my witchy vibes, and anything else that feels real.

And if you want to join me, you’re more than welcome.

Because at the end of the day, I’d rather have one petty hater and a thousand people who get it, than try to please everyone and say nothing at all.

Thanks for reading. If this resonated, share it with someone who needs to hear it. And to my fellow creators: keep going. Your people will find you.

 A Little Extra Motivation

When I first started thinking seriously about sharing my life online—turning my passions into videos and, one day, hopefully earning enough to make life a little easier for my family—I found a lot of inspiration in learning from people who had already done it.

One book in particular really lit a fire under me. It reminded me that if so many others can do this, why not me? Why not you?

If you’re curious, here’s the book that helped get me started. Maybe it’ll spark something for you, too:

Because honestly? There’s room for all of us to tell our stories. And you never know who you’ll inspire when you finally hit “publish.”
