The Witching Hour: Finding Power in Chaos

They say intention is everything when it comes to magic. But what if you didn’t mean to cast a spell… and still did?

Let me set the scene: It was a few days after my birthday. Life had been swirling around me like a windstorm—wedding bliss, dentist visits, financial stress, family tension, guilt, and a mountain of thank-you cards that seemed to multiply overnight. Emotionally and physically, I was toast.

Enter: The Witching Hour Oracle Deck—a birthday gift from my mother-in-law that felt like it shimmered with possibility. I sat down with it for the first time, planning to pull just one card. You know how that goes. One card turned into three, because the first one stared at me like it knew something I didn’t.

The Cards:

1. The Spell is Cast

2. The Flames

3. Deep Being

As soon as I laid them out, I blinked. I hadn’t done any spellwork lately. No herbs, no candles, no moon chants. But these cards insisted I had set something into motion. The kind of energy that’s alive and evolving whether or not you meant to invite it in.

And suddenly, it clicked: I had cast a spell—but it didn’t look like a scene from a fantasy novel.

It looked like marrying the love of my life, while carrying the pain of not having my mom there. It looked like family drama, hurt feelings, and guilt bubbling beneath the surface. It looked like medical vulnerability, bills, burnout, and a body that’s begging for gentleness. It looked like me, trying to stay afloat—spiraling and spellcasting with every action, every emotion, every breath I didn’t even realize had power.

Let’s Break This Down:

The Spell is Cast

This card isn’t always about witchy rituals. Sometimes, our very existence is the magic. Our emotions, decisions, and dreams—especially the ones made during huge life shifts (like a wedding)—send energy out into the world. Something has been activated. And even though I couldn’t name it at first, I felt it. Maybe it was transformation. Maybe it was healing. Maybe it was chaos. Or maybe all three.

The Flames

Whew. This one came in hot. Fire is cleansing—but it also consumes. For me, this card felt like a mirror: conflict with my sister, the guilt of hurting someone I love, the stress of bills and responsibilities that don’t give you a break just because your life has changed. I’m standing in the fire right now. But instead of burning up, I’m letting it forge me into something new.

Deep Being

Ah, the reminder I didn’t know I needed. This card whispered, “Go within.” Not for answers, necessarily—but for peace. For stillness. For the truth that doesn’t come through noise or overthinking. I’m being called to retreat inward, where my most sacred self lives. The self that isn’t defined by overwhelm or others’ opinions. Just… me.

So, What Now?

I created a little grounding ritual for myself, and I’m sharing it here in case you need it too:

Ritual: Return to Center

You don’t need much. Just a quiet space, a candle, and something that feels sacred.

1. Light the candle.

2. Hold your sacred object (a crystal, a ring, a shell—anything that connects you to your magic).

3. Breathe deeply: in for 4, hold for 4, out for 6. Repeat.

4. Whisper:

I call my energy back to me. From stress, from guilt, from fear, from the fire. I am safe. I am grounded. I am whole.”

5. Sit in stillness. Let whatever rises… rise.

6. Blow out the candle. You’ve already done enough today.

A Journal Prompt for Your Witchy Soul:

What energy am I holding onto that isn’t mine to carry? Follow up with: What would I feel like if I released it?

Life is a spell. And even when it feels like you’re unraveling, maybe you’re just being rewoven into something truer, deeper, and more powerful.

So, if you’re in the fire right now like I am, don’t panic. Let it burn what doesn’t belong to you. Let it forge you. Let it be the spell.

P.S. If you’re as obsessed with oracle decks as I am, the Witching Hour Oracle has quickly become one of my favorites for tapping into deeper, more emotional layers of my readings. It’s beautifully illustrated and eerily accurate – especially if you’re a fan of introspective, intuitive pulls like the one I shared above. As an Amazon Associate, I earn from qualifying purchases.
