There’s something surreal about going from late-night Google spirals to actually booking the trip you couldn’t stop dreaming about.
After weeks of comparing destinations, stalking flight prices, and debating “do we really need to spend extra on this?”, it’s official:
We’re going to Jamaica
For our honeymoon… and our one-year wedding anniversary.
And not just anywhere in Jamaica—we booked our stay at Sandals Ochi Beach Resort, an all-inclusive paradise with more restaurants, pools, and experiences than we’ll probably have time for.

But what made this trip even more me… was everything I discovered along the way.
Because of course, I didn’t just plan a honeymoon.
I went down a true crime and paranormal rabbit hole too.
Why We Chose Sandals Ochi
We looked at a lot of places.
Hawaii, Punta Cana, other Sandals resorts…
But Ochi kept pulling us in.
Beautiful private beach
17 restaurants (yes, SEVENTEEN)
Huge property with hidden gardens and quiet spots
Entertainment, pools, beach clubs
All-inclusive (which helps so much mentally when traveling)
It felt like the perfect mix of: relaxation + adventure + romance
And honestly? We found a deal that made it feel right.
The Reality of Honeymoon Extras
Let’s talk about something real for a second.
When you book a resort like this, you start seeing all the “extras”:
- Candlelight dinners on the beach
- Couples massages
- Romantic packages

And at first, it feels like: “We should do ALL of it.”
But then reality kicks in.
We already have:
- unlimited food
- unlimited drinks
- beautiful scenery
- romantic atmosphere
So we made a decision:
Skip the expensive add-ons.
The candlelight dinner?
Gorgeous… but we already have 17 restaurants.
The couples massage?
Amazing… but also expensive.
And here’s the kicker: We don’t even qualify for the honeymoon perks because we got married a year ago (apparently it has to be within 90 days
).
So instead of overspending, we’re focusing on:
experiences we’ll actually remember forever
Our Excursions
We picked two excursions—and they could not be more us.
The Rose Hall Great House Night Tour

This one immediately caught my attention.
A candlelit tour of a historic mansion known for the legend of the White Witch, Annie Palmer.
According to the story:
- she practiced dark magic
- murdered her husbands
- ruled over the plantation with fear
- and was eventually killed herself
Now people claim the house is haunted.
Shadow figures. Footsteps. Unexplained energy.
And yes… I fully plan on paying attention to the vibes while we’re there.
This isn’t just an excursion.
This is true crime meets paranormal history, and I already know I’ll be writing about it after.
Mystic Mountain + Dunn’s River Falls Adventure

On the complete opposite end of the spectrum…
We’re doing:
- a rainforest chairlift

- a bobsled ride through the jungle
- ziplining
- and climbing Dunn’s River Falls
Which honestly feels like something out of a movie.
This is the kind of day where you come back: sun-soaked, exhausted, and so happy you did it.
The Secret Side of the Resort
One thing I learned while researching Sandals Ochi is that it’s not just a resort…
It’s a whole experience if you explore it right.
There are:
- hidden hammocks tucked between palm trees
- quiet garden pathways that feel like a secret jungle
- cliffside ocean views
- smaller pools that become peaceful at night
These are the moments I’m most excited for.
Not the scheduled ones.
The ones you stumble into.
My True Crime Brain Took Over (Of Course)
I can’t help it. I never can.
At some point during planning, I found myself wondering:
“What kind of crimes actually happen in places like this?”
Which led me into a full deep dive.
And here’s the truth:
- Most tourist areas are heavily protected
- Serious crime is rare inside resorts
- The biggest risks are petty theft or situations outside resort grounds
But then…
I found stories.
The Case That Stayed With Me
One of the most haunting unsolved disappearances connected to the Caribbean is Amy Lynn Bradley.

A 23-year-old woman who vanished from a cruise ship.
No body.
No answers.
Possible sightings years later.
Cases like that remind you how vast and mysterious life really is.
The Haunted Cave System Nearby
Then I found something closer to where we’ll be staying:

Used by:
- Indigenous people hiding from colonizers
- Pirates
- Smugglers
Now?
People report whispers, shadows, and an eerie presence deep inside.
And I won’t lie…
Part of me is curious.
The Energy of This Trip
What makes this trip feel different isn’t just the destination.
It’s what it represents.
- One year of marriage
- Everything we’ve been through to get here
- Choosing to celebrate us
Even if it doesn’t come with:
free honeymoon perks, fancy add-ons, or perfectly curated moments…
It still feels meaningful.
What I’ve Learned While Planning This Trip
If you’re planning a honeymoon or anniversary trip, here’s what I’d tell you:
You don’t need every upgrade for it to feel special
Pick experiences, not just aesthetics
Leave room for unplanned moments
Advocate for yourself (you might still get perks
)
And let it feel like yours, not what social media says it should be
Final Thoughts
Somewhere between comparing flights, reading ghost stories, and deciding whether or not to splurge on a beach dinner…
This trip became more than just a vacation.
It became a mix of:
- romance
- curiosity
- adventure
- and a little bit of mystery
And honestly?
That feels exactly right for me.
If you love travel, true crime, and a touch of the paranormal, stay tuned… because I’ll definitely be sharing what actually happens after we get there.
