I Keep Taking Pictures of Ordinary Things – Here’s Why

📷 Day 4: The Things I Don’t Want to Forget

Lately, I’ve found myself reaching for my camera a lot.

And by camera, I mean my phone.

I don’t own some beautiful professional camera with a collection of lenses tucked neatly into a leather bag. Most of the photographs I take happen on the same little device I use to answer emails, scroll through Instagram, check the weather, and Google completely random questions at inappropriate hours.

But somewhere along the way, my phone became something else.

It became a tiny keeper of memories.

Lately, I’ve noticed that I’m not necessarily reaching for it when something big happens.

I’m reaching for it when something small feels beautiful.

A moon hanging over the soccer field.

A cup of coffee that somehow makes an ordinary morning feel a little cozier.

Juggy sitting at the window watching a squirrel like it’s the most important event of his entire life.

The way my house looks when the fall decorations are finally up and the lights are glowing.

A waterfall at the end of a hike. A lighthouse standing against the ocean. A sunset that makes me stop talking for a second and just look.

Little pieces of my life.

Maybe that’s what I’ve found myself wanting to capture lately:

the things I’m afraid I’ll forget.

Not because they’re monumental.

Because they aren’t.

And I think that’s exactly why they matter.

There are thousands of ordinary days that make up a life. Most of them won’t have birthdays, weddings, vacations, or some giant milestone attached to them. They’ll just be Tuesdays. Soccer practices. Coffee before work. A cat curled up somewhere he probably shouldn’t be. A pretty sky on the drive home.

But lately, I’ve been realizing how much magic lives inside those ordinary days.

Maybe blogging has made me notice it more. Maybe creating content has trained my eyes to look for a story. Or maybe I’m simply getting older and understanding that life moves much faster than I ever thought it would.

Whatever the reason, I find myself stopping more.

Wait. Look at that.

And then—click. 📷

Of course, not every picture becomes an Instagram post.

Not every video becomes a Reel.

Not every moment needs an audience.

Some are just for me.

Because someday, the picture itself might not be the important part.

It will be what I remember when I look at it.

The temperature outside.

The person standing beside me.

What we were laughing about.

What season of life I was in.

How my home looked.

Where Juggy always liked to sit.

What made me happy when I was simply living an ordinary October day.

So no, I don’t have a fancy camera.

I have something I carry around in my pocket every single day.

And lately, I’ve been using it to collect proof that even the most ordinary life is filled with moments worth remembering.

Maybe the real challenge isn’t taking more pictures.

Maybe it’s noticing the moments worth taking them of. 🍂📷✨

A smartphone with a colorful marble phone case is placed on a marble surface. Next to it, there is a patterned coffee cup, a lit candle, a small white pumpkin, a notebook with a spiral binding, and a pen, surrounded by soft fabric and greenery.
