Today’s WordPress writing prompt asks: What’s the best online course you’ve ever taken?
And I have to admit, I sat here staring at that question for a minute.
Because apparently, while everyone else is out there taking online courses in photography, business, marketing, and personal development, I’m over here trying to remember if traffic school counts.
Spoiler alert: I’m counting it.
Actually, now that I think about it, I’ve taken online driving courses twice in my life. Once when I was learning how to drive, and another time because… well, let’s just say I needed a little refresher.
Different circumstances. Same general subject.
Apparently, driving has been my most consistent form of online education.
But Here’s the Funny Thing…
I have a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice, and most of my formal education happened in actual classrooms.
So when someone asks me about my favorite online course, I don’t have some impressive certification or life-changing virtual class to recommend.
But the more I thought about it, the more I realized something.
Some of the most valuable things I’ve learned weren’t taught in a classroom at all.
I’ve spent countless hours teaching myself how to build and maintain a blog, create content, understand social media algorithms, navigate Pinterest, and run an Etsy shop.
And let me tell you, the internet can be one heck of a teacher.
Sometimes it’s helpful. Sometimes it’s confusing. And sometimes you spend three hours trying to figure something out, only to discover there was a button right in front of your face the entire time.
But that’s part of learning, isn’t it?
Still Learning, Still Figuring It Out
One thing I’ve discovered about myself is that I genuinely enjoy learning new things, especially when they’re connected to something I’m passionate about.
Whether it’s writing, content creation, exploring history, or trying to turn one of my creative hobbies into a successful side business, I’m constantly learning as I go.
I don’t have all the answers. Some days I feel like I’m making wonderful progress, and other days I’m wondering what on earth I’m doing.
But I’m doing it anyway.
And maybe that’s what matters most.
So, What’s the Best Online Course I’ve Ever Taken?
Technically?
Probably one of those driving classes.
Not exactly the glamorous answer I imagine this writing prompt was hoping for.
But if we’re talking about the best education I’ve received through the internet, I’d have to say it’s the ongoing experience of teaching myself how to create something from scratch.
No syllabus. No final exam. No fancy certificate waiting at the finish line.
Just curiosity, determination, plenty of mistakes, and a willingness to keep learning.
And who knows? Maybe one day I’ll take an incredible online course that completely changes my life.
Until then, at least I can say I’ve had plenty of online education behind the wheel.
Some lessons teach you how to move forward. Others teach you when to slow down.
Apparently, I’ve needed both.
Now I’m curious: What’s the best online course you’ve ever taken? Was it something that changed your life, helped your career, or simply taught you something useful? I’d love to hear about it!
