31 Days of October: A Photo + Writing Challenge
Today’s photo prompt: Something You’re Grateful For
Today’s writing prompt: What are you grateful for that you sometimes forget to appreciate?
Life.
Such a small word for something so incredibly precious.
When I first read today’s writing prompt, I started thinking about all the things I’m grateful for. My husband, my family, my home, my cat, the little comforts that make an ordinary day feel special.
And while I’m incredibly thankful for all of those things, something else came to mind.
Being alive.
Breathing.
Waking up in the morning.
Getting another opportunity to experience this crazy, beautiful, unpredictable world.
It’s something I don’t think we appreciate nearly enough.
We wake up, grab our coffee, rush through our routines, worry about bills, stress about work, and think about everything we still need to accomplish.
We get frustrated over little things. We complain about being tired. We wish the weekend would hurry up and arrive.
Sometimes, we’re so busy waiting for the next thing that we forget to appreciate the moment we’re actually living in.
And yet, somewhere in the world, someone is wishing for just one more morning.
One more sunrise.
One more hug.
One more conversation.
One more ordinary day.
That thought alone puts so much into perspective.
Life isn’t always easy. There are days when everything feels overwhelming, when emotions run high, when things don’t go according to plan, and when the weight of responsibilities feels like too much.
But even on those days, there is something worth appreciating.
The air filling our lungs.
The warmth of sunlight on our skin.
The sound of someone we love laughing.
The comfort of crawling into bed after a long day.
The fact that we’re still here, still learning, still growing, and still getting another chance.
I think losing people we love changes the way we look at life, too. It reminds us that time isn’t promised, no matter how much we wish it were.
And maybe that’s why the little moments mean so much more than we realize.
Because someday, the ordinary moments we’re rushing through today might be the very memories we wish we could experience again.
I don’t want to spend my entire life chasing tomorrow and forgetting to appreciate today.
Of course, I’ll still have goals. I’ll still dream big. I’ll still get stressed, frustrated, overwhelmed, and occasionally forget to slow down.
I’m human.
But today, I’m reminding myself that being alive is something worth celebrating all on its own.
Not because life is perfect.
Not because every day is magical.
But because every day gives us the possibility of finding a little magic somewhere.
And sometimes, that’s enough.
So today, I’m grateful for my heartbeat. For my breath. For another sunrise and another sunset.
For the opportunity to love, laugh, cry, make mistakes, create memories, and experience everything that makes us human.
I’m grateful for this one beautiful, messy, unpredictable life.
And I hope I never stop reminding myself how precious it truly is.
A Little Reflection
When was the last time you stopped and appreciated the simple fact that you’re alive?
Not what you own. Not what you’ve accomplished. Not what you’re working toward.
Just the gift of being here.
Maybe today is a good day to do exactly that.
Until tomorrow, keep finding the magic in the everyday.
