31 Days of October: A Photo + Writing Challenge
When I think of October, one of the first colors that comes to mind is orange.
Pumpkins, falling leaves, Halloween decorations, glowing candles, and beautiful autumn sunsets. Orange seems to be everywhere this time of year, and I absolutely love it!
But here’s the thing…
I don’t think orange belongs to October alone.
To me, orange is more of an autumn color than just a Halloween color. It’s one of those beautiful shades that carries us from the spooky excitement of October right into the cozy warmth of November.
Think about it. The pumpkins don’t suddenly disappear when Halloween ends. The leaves are still changing colors, the temperatures are getting cooler, and those beautiful burnt-orange and golden tones continue to surround us.
Orange feels like a celebration of the entire season.
A Little Color Magic
Something else I love about orange is how much its personality changes depending on the colors you pair it with.
Orange and purple? That’s Halloween magic! It’s playful, mysterious, a little witchy, and perfect for spooky decorations.
Purple and green? Now we’re getting into something a little more eerie! These colors remind me of bubbling cauldrons, mischievous witches, and all things wonderfully spooky.
Orange, brown, and cream? Suddenly, we’re moving away from Halloween and into the cozy warmth of autumn. Think Thanksgiving decorations, soft blankets, warm drinks, and beautiful fall centerpieces.
It’s fascinating how simply changing the colors around something can completely transform the feeling it gives us.
Why Orange Feels Like Autumn to Me
I think part of what makes orange so special is that it represents so many things I love about this season.
It’s warm without being overwhelming. It’s cheerful but still cozy. It can feel magical, spooky, comforting, or nostalgic.
And as someone who absolutely loves decorating for the seasons, I appreciate how versatile it is.
I can decorate with orange pumpkins in October, take away the spooky decorations in November, and still have a home that feels perfectly festive.
There’s something beautiful about a color that transitions so effortlessly from one celebration to another.
Finding Magic in the Everyday
Maybe that’s why I love seasonal colors so much.
They’re little reminders of where we are in the year.
Orange reminds me to appreciate the changing leaves, the cooler mornings, the pumpkins on porches, and those cozy evenings at home.
It reminds me that Halloween may only last one night, but the magic of autumn sticks around a little longer.
And I’m perfectly happy keeping that magic alive through November.
Day 26 Reflection: What color feels most like October to you, and why?
For me, orange will always be a favorite. But when it comes to Halloween specifically, I think purple deserves a little more credit, too!
What about you? Are you team orange and purple, purple and green, or do you prefer the traditional warm autumn colors?
Until next time, keep finding the magic in the everyday.
