LexTalk Tarot: Three of Cups — Finding Your People & Celebrating the Little Wins

Published by

on

Have you ever been SO excited about something that you couldn’t wait to tell someone?

Maybe you accomplished a goal.

Received amazing news.

Created something you’re really proud of.

Finally did something you’d been scared to do.

And you’re practically BURSTING because you want someone else to understand why this moment means so much to you.

You tell them…

And you get:

“Oh. Cool.“

Well…

THANKS FOR MATCHING MY ENERGY.

But then something really interesting happens.

Someone you barely know comes along.

Maybe it’s someone online.

A reader.

A follower.

Another creator.

Someone you’ve never even met in real life.

And they’re like:

“OH MY GOD!!! THAT’S AMAZING! I’M SO HAPPY FOR YOU!“

🥹
💜

And you’re sitting there thinking… WAIT.

YOU CARE?!

Sometimes the people who celebrate us the loudest aren’t necessarily the people who’ve known us the longest.

And I’ve been thinking about that a LOT.

Which makes today’s tarot card incredibly fitting.

Welcome back to LexTalk Tarot: One Card at a Time! 🔮✨

We’ve officially reached Card #27 of 78, and today we’re exploring a card filled with friendship, connection, community, abundance, and shared happiness.

Today we’re learning about…

🥂 THE THREE OF CUPS

And my beginner memory trick for this one is:

Three of Cups = Find your people and celebrate the good stuff together.

Let’s investigate.

🥂 Meet the Three of Cups

Card: Three of Cups

Suit: Cups

Arcana: Minor Arcana

Element: Water

Core Themes: Friendship, community, celebration, support, connection, collaboration, shared happiness

At first glance, the Three of Cups looks pretty straightforward.

Three women.

Three cups.

Everybody looks happy.

There are flowers.

There’s food.

Nobody is falling out of a tower.

Nobody is chained to a giant horned creature.

Nobody is wandering around in moonlight wondering whether they’re following intuition or anxiety.

THANK YOU, TAROT.

We needed this.

The Three of Cups traditionally represents friendship, community, celebration, connection, and the joy that comes from sharing experiences with other people.

And I think there’s something really beautiful about that.

Because we talk so much about independence.

Doing things ourselves.

Building our own lives.

Chasing our own dreams.

Becoming stronger.

And all of those things are important.

But… We still need people.

Not necessarily a LOT of people.

But people who make us feel:

Seen.

Supported.

Accepted.

Encouraged.

Included.

And sometimes?

People who will simply raise a metaphorical glass and say:

YOU DID IT!

🥂

💧 Understanding the Suit of Cups

Since we’re learning tarot one card at a time, let’s talk about Cups.

The suit of Cups is traditionally associated with the element of Water.

And Cups often connect with:

Emotions

Relationships

Intuition

Connection

Love

Creativity

Emotional experiences

Basically… FEELINGS.

Lots and lots of feelings.

And the Three of Cups fits beautifully into that suit because this card isn’t really about achieving something tangible.

It’s about the emotional experience of sharing life with other people.

It’s the feeling of:

I have people.

🔍 Let’s Study the Three of Cups

The Rider-Waite-Smith Three of Cups looks cheerful and simple.

But like I’ve learned throughout this series… the details matter.

So let’s investigate.

🥂 The Three Raised Cups

This is obviously the first thing I notice.

Three women stand together, each holding a golden cup in the air.

It looks like a toast.

A celebration.

A shared moment.

Nobody is holding their cup alone.

They’re raising them TOGETHER.

And that’s really the heart of this card.

🥂 Raised Cups = Shared happiness and celebration.

There are accomplishments we can absolutely celebrate by ourselves.

And we SHOULD.

But there’s something special about sharing happiness with someone who genuinely wants to celebrate with you.

Someone who isn’t secretly competing.

Someone who doesn’t immediately redirect the conversation back to themselves.

Someone who doesn’t minimize what happened.

Someone who understands:

This matters to you, so I’m excited WITH you.

That’s beautiful.

👩‍❤️‍👩 The Three Women

Three women stand together in a circle.

Their clothing is different.

Their appearance is different.

But they’re participating in the same moment.

And I LOVE that.

Because community doesn’t require everyone to be exactly the same.

Your people don’t necessarily need to:

Think exactly like you.

Live exactly like you.

Have identical interests.

Make the same choices.

Or experience life the same way.

Sometimes connection comes from something much simpler.

Mutual respect.

Kindness.

Support.

Shared interests.

Encouragement.

The ability to be happy for one another.

👩‍❤️‍👩 Three Figures = Friendship, community, collaboration, and belonging.

And here’s another important beginner reminder:

This card does NOT necessarily mean:

THREE WOMEN ARE ABOUT TO ENTER YOUR LIFE.

Tarot imagery is symbolic.

The three figures represent community and shared experience.

Not necessarily a literal headcount.

🔄 The Circle

Look at how the women are positioned.

They’re facing inward toward one another.

Together, they form a circle.

And I think there’s something really meaningful about that.

Because healthy community isn’t supposed to flow in only one direction.

It’s not:

Support me!

Celebrate me!

Encourage me!

while never giving anything back.

Real community involves reciprocity.

Sometimes you’re the person being celebrated.

Sometimes you’re holding the cup for someone else.

🥂

🔄 Circle = Mutual support and participation.

And THAT might be one of my favorite lessons in this card.

🌸 The Flowers

The women wear floral garlands, and flowers appear throughout the scene.

Flowers naturally connect with:

Beauty

Growth

Joy

Celebration

Appreciation

But flowers are also temporary.

They bloom.

We admire them.

And eventually the moment passes.

Which makes me think about something I struggle with sometimes.

Actually stopping to enjoy an accomplishment.

Because I’m very good at:

YAY! I DID IT!

Followed approximately thirty seconds later by:

Okay. What’s next?

👀

The flowers make me think:

Maybe sometimes we’re supposed to actually stay in the moment for a minute.

🌸 Flowers = Appreciating beautiful moments while they’re happening.

🎃🍇 The Harvest

There are fruits, vegetables, grapes, and harvest imagery around the women’s feet.

And THIS detail adds another layer.

Because harvest comes AFTER effort.

Something was planted.

Something grew.

Time passed.

Work happened.

And eventually?

There was something to enjoy.

🍇 Harvest = Enjoying the results of effort and abundance.

Which means the Three of Cups isn’t only:

LET’S PARTY!

It can also remind us:

You worked for this. Stop for a second and acknowledge it.

☀️ Three of Cups Upright Meaning

When the Three of Cups appears upright, common themes include:

Friendship • Celebration • Community • Support • Connection • Collaboration • Shared Happiness

Maybe you’re celebrating something.

Maybe you’re reconnecting with someone.

Maybe you’re finding a new community.

Maybe you’re collaborating with people who share your interests.

Maybe you’re realizing how much someone’s support means to you.

Or maybe… you’re realizing you need more connection in your life.

The Three of Cups doesn’t guarantee:

A PARTY IS COMING!

Instead, I see it as an invitation to examine the role community plays in our lives.

☀️ Upright Message:

You don’t have to accomplish everything alone—and you don’t have to celebrate alone either.

🌑 Three of Cups Reversed Meaning

You know the LexTalk rule!

REVERSED DOES NOT AUTOMATICALLY MEAN BAD.

Common reversed interpretations include:

Social Disconnection • Exclusion • Gossip • Strained Friendships • Overindulgence • Feeling Unsupported

And this side of the card is REALLY interesting.

Because not every social circle is healthy.

Sometimes we outgrow people.

Sometimes friendships become one-sided.

Sometimes groups become filled with gossip or competition.

Sometimes we’re surrounded by people…

and still feel completely alone.

And sometimes?

We simply need a BREAK from everyone.

The reversed Three of Cups might invite us to ask:

Do my relationships leave me feeling supported—or drained?

That’s a GOOD question.

💜 Finding Your People

I think this is the part of the Three of Cups that connects with me the most.

Because I’ve learned something interesting through writing and creating online.

Sometimes support comes from the LAST place you expect.

People you’ve known forever might not really understand what you’re doing.

Maybe they’re not interested.

Maybe they don’t relate.

Maybe they don’t realize how much something means to you.

And that can hurt.

But then… A stranger reads something you wrote.

And comments.

Someone saves your work.

Someone shares it.

Someone subscribes.

Someone sends you a message saying:

I needed this today.

Someone gets genuinely excited about something YOU created.

And suddenly you’re sitting there thinking:

How does this person I’ve never met understand why this matters to me better than someone who’s known me for years?

Life is weird.

But maybe community isn’t always determined by history.

Maybe it’s determined by connection.

🥹 Sometimes Strangers Become Your People

I’ve always thought friendship was mostly about time.

The people you’ve known longest.

The people who were there first.

The people physically around you.

But creating online has changed how I think about that.

Because sometimes someone you’ve never met can make you feel incredibly seen.

They understand your interests.

They appreciate your creativity.

They share your excitement.

And they’re rooting for you.

That’s REAL connection too.

Maybe community can happen anywhere.

At work.

In your neighborhood.

Through family.

Through hobbies.

Through social media.

Through blogging.

Through tarot.

Through some random conversation that started because two people liked the same weird thing.

Your people don’t necessarily need to be physically close to you.

They just need to make you feel like there’s room for you.

💔 When the People You Expected Don’t Celebrate You

Okay.

Let’s talk about the uncomfortable part.

Because I think most people have experienced this at some point.

You accomplish something.

And someone you expected to be excited… isn’t.

Maybe they barely acknowledge it.

Maybe they change the subject.

Maybe they make a joke.

Maybe they minimize it.

Maybe you get:

That’s nice.

And suddenly something that felt exciting… feels smaller.

That hurts.

Especially when you care about that person’s opinion.

But I’m learning something.

Someone else’s inability to celebrate something doesn’t determine its value.

Read that again.

Your accomplishment doesn’t become less meaningful because someone didn’t clap.

Your creativity doesn’t become less valuable because someone didn’t understand it.

Your progress doesn’t disappear because someone wasn’t paying attention.

Maybe they aren’t your audience.

Maybe they don’t understand.

Maybe they’re dealing with their own stuff.

Maybe comparison makes it difficult for them.

Whatever the reason… You are still allowed to celebrate yourself.

🥂

🪞 Comparison vs. Celebration

OOOH.

This one.

Because it’s really easy to say:

I support other people!

Until someone succeeds at something YOU desperately want.

👀

Then suddenly… we’re being tested.

Someone gets the opportunity.

Someone’s business grows.

Someone’s content takes off.

Someone reaches the milestone.

And you can genuinely be happy for them… while simultaneously thinking:

BUT WHEN IS IT MY TURN?!

Those two feelings can exist together.

We’re human.

The Three of Cups doesn’t require pretending jealousy or comparison never happens.

Maybe it asks us to notice it.

And then remember:

Someone else’s success doesn’t remove the possibility of ours.

There’s room.

Their win isn’t automatically our loss.

And maybe celebrating someone else becomes easier when we stop treating life like there’s only one trophy available.

🥂 Celebrate the LITTLE Wins Too

This card is also making me think about how terrible we can be at acknowledging progress.

We celebrate:

The huge promotion.

The wedding.

The graduation.

The massive milestone.

The big launch.

But what about:

Finishing something you kept putting off?

Getting your first subscriber?

Your first sale?

Publishing something you were nervous about?

Trying something new?

Reaching 100 views?

Getting a nice comment?

Someone sharing your work?

Sticking with something longer than you usually do?

Why don’t those count?

They DO.

If we only allow ourselves to celebrate the finish line… we’re going to spend most of our lives waiting to feel proud.

That’s ridiculous.

Celebrate progress.

Not just completion.

🤝 Being Someone Else’s Three of Cups

Here’s the OTHER side of this card.

We can’t only ask:

Who supports ME?

We should also ask:

Who am I supporting?

When someone shares exciting news… Do I celebrate with them?

When someone creates something… Do I encourage them?

When someone takes a scary first step… Do I acknowledge it?

Because sometimes we have NO idea how much our encouragement means.

A comment takes thirty seconds.

A message saying:

I’m proud of you.

takes seconds.

But someone might remember it for YEARS.

That’s kind of magical.

❤️ Three of Cups in Love & Relationships

Okay…

Let’s talk love.

And there’s an important misconception here.

Some tarot traditions associate the reversed Three of Cups with third-party complications.

So people sometimes see it and immediately think:

CHEATING!!!

No.

A tarot card cannot establish that someone is cheating.

The Three of Cups is much broader than that.

❤️ Three of Cups Upright in Love

Common relationship themes include:

Friendship • Shared Experiences • Celebration • Social Connection • Enjoyment

For couples, this card can encourage:

Going out.

Seeing friends.

Celebrating milestones.

Trying activities together.

Having FUN.

Because relationships can’t ONLY consist of:

Bills.

Schedules.

Laundry.

Errands.

What’s for dinner?

Sometimes you need to remember:

Oh yeah.

We actually LIKE each other.

❤️ Love Reflection:

Are we making time to actually enjoy life together—not just manage it?

For someone single, the Three of Cups can also highlight the importance of friendship and community regardless of romantic status.

A fulfilling life doesn’t begin when someone enters a relationship.

🌑 Three of Cups Reversed in Love

Reversed themes might include:

Social Tension • Feeling Excluded • Friendship Conflict • Competing Priorities • Unhealthy Group Dynamics

Again:

It does NOT automatically mean infidelity.

Context matters.

Communication matters.

Reality matters.

Tarot can encourage questions.

It shouldn’t be used to manufacture accusations.

💼 Three of Cups in Career

I LOVE this card for creative work.

Because career success isn’t always individual.

Sometimes someone:

Recommends you.

Shares your work.

Introduces you.

Collaborates with you.

Mentors you.

Teaches you something.

Opens a door.

And sometimes you do the same for them.

That’s community.

💼 Upright Career Themes:

Teamwork • Collaboration • Networking • Recognition • Creative Community • Shared Success

And I think networking gets a bad reputation because it sounds so… corporate.

But networking can simply mean:

Building genuine relationships with people.

Supporting their work.

Sharing ideas.

Learning from each other.

And creating opportunities together.

💼 Career Reflection:

Who supports my professional or creative growth—and how can I support others in return?

🌑 Three of Cups Reversed in Career

Reversed themes can include:

Workplace Gossip • Exclusion • Unproductive Group Dynamics • Competition • Feeling Disconnected

And workplace gossip… OOF.

It can be entertaining for approximately five minutes.

Until YOU become the subject.

The reversed Three of Cups can remind us to pay attention to the culture we’re participating in.

💰 Three of Cups & Money

Financially, this card can connect with spending around:

Celebrations.

Dinner.

Travel.

Gifts.

Events.

Parties.

Social activities.

And listen…

Enjoy your life.

🥂

Money isn’t only for bills.

But we also don’t need to financially destroy ourselves every time somebody has a birthday.

💰 Money Reflection:

How can I celebrate meaningful moments without creating unnecessary financial stress?

Balance.

Again.

Tarot LOVES balance.

🧍‍♀️ You Don’t Need a Huge Friend Group

I want to say this because I think social media sometimes gives us a really distorted picture of friendship.

We see:

Huge birthday dinners.

Girls’ trips.

Massive wedding parties.

Ten people posing together.

And think:

Is THAT what friendship is supposed to look like?

No.

Maybe your Three of Cups is:

One best friend.

Your partner.

Your sister.

An online friend.

A small creator community.

Someone you text memes to every day.

Quality matters more than headcount.

The Three of Cups isn’t telling us we need twenty friends.

It’s reminding us that meaningful connection matters.

🌙 What If You Haven’t Found Your People Yet?

This matters too.

Because saying:

FIND YOUR PEOPLE!

sounds adorable.

Until someone thinks:

Okay… WHERE ARE THEY?!

Maybe you’re still looking.

That’s okay.

Community takes time.

And sometimes it begins with simply showing up where people with similar interests gather.

Take the class.

Join the group.

Comment on the post.

Share your work.

Talk about the weird thing you love.

Be yourself.

Because hiding the things that make you YOU makes it pretty difficult for your people to recognize you.

Maybe finding your people begins with allowing yourself to be findable.

📓 Today’s LexTalk Tarot Journal Prompt

Today’s main question:

🥂 Who are the people who genuinely celebrate my happiness and accomplishments—and how can I nurture those connections?

And another one:

Am I allowing myself to celebrate my progress before reaching the final goal?

A few more:

Who makes me feel seen and supported?

Who do I genuinely enjoy supporting?

What does friendship mean to me now?

Have I outgrown any social dynamics?

Where do I feel like I truly belong?

Do I minimize my accomplishments?

How do I react when someone else succeeds at something I want?

Where could I build more meaningful community?

When was the last time I told someone I was proud of them?

And finally:

What small win deserves a toast right now?

🔮 The Tarot Deck I’m Learning With

The Three of Cups is another great example of why I’m enjoying learning tarot through the Rider-Waite-Smith artwork.

Instead of memorizing:

Three of Cups = Friendship.

I can look at the card and remember:

🥂 Raised Cups = Shared celebration

👩‍❤️‍👩 Three Figures = Friendship and community

🔄 Circle = Mutual support

🌸 Flowers = Joy and appreciation

🍇 Harvest = Enjoying the results of effort

And suddenly… I understand the story.

Throughout LexTalk Tarot, I’m using a physical Rider-Waite-Smith style tarot deck because studying the artwork is helping me understand each card instead of simply memorizing definitions.

If you’d like to learn alongside me using the same style of deck, you can [check out the tarot deck I’m using here — paid link].

Done.

One card.

One story.

🎉 27 Cards Into LexTalk Tarot!

We have officially explored:

27 OF 78 TAROT CARDS! 🎉🔮

That’s almost 35% of the entire deck!

WHAT?!

And I think today’s card is such a perfect follow-up to the Ace of Wands.

Yesterday’s lesson was about:

THE SPARK.

Starting something.

Creating something.

Following an idea.

And today’s lesson reminds us:

We don’t necessarily have to experience the journey alone.

Maybe someone cheers us on.

Maybe someone shares what we create.

Maybe someone gives advice.

Maybe someone simply says:

Keep going.

And sometimes?

That’s enough to help us keep the spark alive.

🌙 One Last LexTalk Thought

I think the Three of Cups is one of those cards that looks incredibly simple… until you start thinking about what it means to actually feel supported.

Because there’s a difference between:

Knowing people.

And feeling connected to people.

There’s a difference between:

Having followers.

And having community.

There’s a difference between:

Someone seeing your accomplishment.

And someone celebrating it.

And maybe that’s why genuine support feels so powerful.

Someone else’s excitement doesn’t make our accomplishment more valid.

But it does make us feel less alone in it.

And I think that’s beautiful.

I’ve also learned that support doesn’t always come from the places we expect.

Sometimes people we’ve known forever don’t really understand what we’re building.

And sometimes… a complete stranger does.

They read something.

Comment.

Subscribe.

Share.

Encourage.

And suddenly you’re reminded:

There are people out there who get it.

Maybe that’s what “finding your people” actually means.

Not finding people who are identical to you.

Not finding people who agree with everything you say.

Not collecting as many friends as possible.

Just finding people where the energy feels mutual.

You celebrate them.

They celebrate you.

You encourage them.

They encourage you.

There’s room for everyone at the table.

And if you haven’t found that community yet?

Keep showing up.

Keep talking about what you love.

Keep creating.

Keep being weird.

Seriously.

Because your weird thing might be someone else’s weird thing too.

And that’s usually where connection begins.

Maybe the Three of Cups isn’t simply telling us:

CELEBRATE!

Maybe it’s reminding us:

Life feels a little sweeter when we have someone to clink glasses with.

And while we’re waiting for the huge milestones?

Celebrate the little ones.

The first sale.

The first subscriber.

The first person who shares your work.

The scary thing you finally tried.

The project you actually finished.

The day you almost gave up… but didn’t.

Those count.

YOU count.

So, raise the metaphorical glass.

Celebrate yourself.

Celebrate someone you love.

Celebrate someone who’s trying.

And when another person gets something you’ve been wishing for?

Try to remember:

Their win didn’t steal yours.

There’s room for both.

Because maybe one of the most magical things we can do for another person is simply look at something they’re proud of and say:

I see you.

I’m proud of you.

Keep going.

🥂 Three of Cups = Find your people and celebrate the good stuff together.

One card. One lesson. One little bit of magic at a time.
