Daily Writing Prompt: What’s a small moment from the past that you still think about years later?
Oh, do I have a story for this one!
There are certain childhood memories that stick with you forever. Some are sweet, some are sentimental, and others are so ridiculously embarrassing that you couldn’t forget them even if you tried.
Mine involves a bicycle, a sandal, a concussion, and an unexpected audience.
Let me explain. LOL.
When I was younger, I was riding my bike around the neighborhood when somehow, someway, my sandal managed to get caught in the back tire.
And when I say my bike came to a stop, I mean it came to a COMPLETE stop.
Unfortunately, my body did not.
I went flying over the handlebars and crashed right into the street.
Ouch.
I ended up with a mild concussion, some bloody scrapes, and a day off from school the following day. Not exactly the kind of childhood adventure I had planned!
After coming to, I managed to walk myself home. Naturally, my first thought was that I needed to get cleaned up. I was scraped, bloody, and just wanted to hop in the shower.
So, I went home, got undressed, and was getting ready to shower when I heard someone in the living room.
I assumed it was my sister.
Without thinking twice, I walked out to let her know I was getting in the shower.
Except… it wasn’t my sister.
Standing in my living room were my friend Jenna and HER MOM.
And there I was.
Completely. Butt. Naked.
Apparently, Jenna and her mom had witnessed my spectacular bicycle crash from down the street and decided to come over to check on me.
Which was incredibly sweet of them.
Except I HAD ABSOLUTELY NO IDEA THEY WERE COMING!
So not only had they witnessed me launch myself over my handlebars like some kind of neighborhood stunt performer, but now they were getting an entirely different kind of show.
I was MORTIFIED.
I honestly don’t know what was worse. The actual bike accident or the embarrassment that followed!
Looking back now, I can laugh about it. In fact, it’s one of those stories that still makes me shake my head and wonder how on earth that all happened in the span of one afternoon.
And the funniest part?
Of all the things my brain could have chosen to remember from childhood, THIS is one of the memories that decided to stick around forever.
Maybe it’s because life has a funny way of reminding us that even our most embarrassing moments eventually become some of our favorite stories to tell.
So, here’s my question for you:
What’s one ridiculously embarrassing childhood memory that you still think about years later?
Please tell me I’m not the only one with a story like this!
Until next time,
Create the magic!
