October Photo & Writing Challenge | Day 13: The Weather
Today’s writing prompt: What does the perfect October day look and feel like to you?
If I could order the perfect October weather, I’d like to place a very specific request with Mother Nature. And honestly, I don’t think I’m asking for too much.
Give me a morning in the 60s, an afternoon in the mid-70s, clear blue skies, and an evening cool enough to make a cozy blanket feel absolutely necessary.
That’s it. That’s my perfect October day.
Crisp Mornings & Warm Coffee
There’s something magical about waking up to cool, crisp October air.
I love starting my mornings with temperatures in the 60s. That first deep breath of fresh air feels like it wakes up my lungs, clears my mind, and reminds me that a brand-new day is waiting.
And, of course, there’s the coffee.
There’s just something comforting about wrapping my hands around a warm mug while the morning air is still chilly. The coolness outside and the warmth of the coffee inside create the perfect little balance.
It’s a simple pleasure, but sometimes those are the best ones.
Blue Skies & Seventy-Something Degrees
As the morning turns into afternoon, I’d like Mother Nature to turn up the thermostat just a little.
Mid-70s, please!
Give me bright blue skies, a little sunshine, and just enough warmth to enjoy being outside without feeling like I’m melting.
Living in Northern California, I especially appreciate those beautiful fall days when the weather is comfortable enough to get outside, take a walk, explore a trail, or simply enjoy the sunshine.
I don’t need summer temperatures hanging around pretending they haven’t overstayed their welcome.
October is here. Read the room, sunshine.
Open Windows & Fresh Autumn Air
One of my favorite things about perfect fall weather is being able to leave the windows open all day.
I love having fresh air circulating throughout the house, especially when there’s a gentle breeze drifting through.
No air conditioning. No heater. Just that wonderful in-between weather where the house stays comfortable all on its own.
Of course, that only works when the temperatures cooperate. If it gets too hot outside, those windows are getting shut!
But on the perfect October day? They’re staying open from morning until evening.
Early Sunsets & Outdoor Movie Nights
One thing I actually appreciate about October is that the sky starts getting darker earlier.
I know not everyone loves losing those extra hours of daylight, but there’s a silver lining.
Outdoor movie nights!
There’s something so cozy about setting up a movie outside, bundling up in warm clothes, grabbing a soft blanket, and settling in for a little entertainment under the night sky.
Maybe it’s a Halloween classic, a spooky movie, or something the whole family can enjoy.
The important part is being comfortable, enjoying the fresh evening air, and having a reason to get extra cozy.
And don’t forget the snacks!
The Beauty of October Is in the Balance
I think that’s what makes the perfect October day so special to me.
It’s all about balance.
Cool enough in the morning to appreciate a warm cup of coffee. Warm enough in the afternoon to enjoy the outdoors. Comfortable enough to leave the windows open. And chilly enough in the evening to wrap yourself in a blanket.
Nothing extreme. Nothing complicated.
Just beautiful weather, fresh air, a little sunshine, and those small moments that make an ordinary day feel extraordinary.
Because sometimes the perfect day isn’t about what you do. It’s about how the world feels around you.
And for me, October weather at its finest feels like a warm hug wrapped in a cool breeze.
Now I’m curious: What’s your perfect October temperature? Are you a crisp-and-cool autumn lover, or do you prefer a little more sunshine and warmth?
Thanks for joining me for Day 13 of my October Photo & Writing Challenge. Here’s to finding a little magic in the everyday moments!
Keep creating the magic!
