Writing Prompt: What makes someone feel like home to you?

They say home is where the heart is. And while I love a cozy house, a warm cup of coffee, and all the little things that make a space feel welcoming, I’ve learned that sometimes home isn’t a place at all.

Sometimes, home is a person.

And for me, that person is my husband, Tony.

Finding My Person

When I met Tony in 2021, I had no idea just how much my life was about to change.

I didn’t know that this man would become my husband, my best friend, my biggest supporter, and my favorite person to experience life with.

But here we are!

And I wouldn’t trade what we’ve built together for anything.

One of the things I love most about Tony is how he loves me. Not just through words, but through his actions.

He supports me, encourages me, respects me, and makes me feel beautiful. Even on the days when I might not necessarily feel that way myself.

He treats me so well, and there’s something incredibly special about being loved by someone who genuinely wants to see you happy.

We’re a Team, Always

Marriage isn’t just about romantic dates, vacations, and cute pictures together. Although, let’s be real, I love all of those things too!

It’s also about navigating everyday life.

The responsibilities. The stressful days. The unexpected challenges. The family schedules. The moments when everything seems to happen all at once.

And through it all, Tony reminds me that we’re a team.

It’s never supposed to be me against him or him against me. It’s us, together, figuring things out.

That means more to me than I can even explain.

We’ve laughed together, traveled together, created memories, and built a beautiful, sometimes chaotic, blended family.

And while life certainly isn’t perfect, there’s nobody else I’d rather navigate it with.

My Best Friend and My Favorite Adventure

One of my favorite things about our relationship is that I genuinely enjoy spending time with my husband.

Whether we’re heading out on an adventure, watching one of our favorite reality shows, grabbing something delicious to eat, or simply sitting together with our morning coffee, he’s my favorite company.

We can laugh about the silliest things, talk about serious things, and enjoy the little everyday moments that might not seem particularly exciting to anyone else.

But those moments? They’re everything.

Because finding someone you love is wonderful.

Finding someone you genuinely like doing life with? That’s a whole different kind of magic.

So, What Makes Someone Feel Like Home?

For me, it’s feeling safe enough to be completely myself.

It’s being respected, supported, appreciated, and loved.

It’s having someone who sees beauty in you even when you’re struggling to see it yourself.

It’s knowing that when life gets overwhelming, you don’t have to face everything alone.

It’s laughter, friendship, partnership, and choosing each other over and over again.

Tony is all of those things to me.

Five years ago, I couldn’t have imagined the life I have today. There have been challenges, surprises, growing pains, and so many beautiful memories along the way.

But one of the greatest gifts life has given me is finding my person.

My husband. My teammate. My best friend.

My favorite person to come home to.

And if you’re lucky enough to find someone who makes you feel this way, cherish them.

Because at the end of the day, home isn’t always four walls and a roof.

Sometimes, home is simply two arms wrapped around you, reminding you that you’re exactly where you belong.
